The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted light to moderate rainfall and snowfall across the western Himalayan region from December 26 to 29, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning on December 26.
On Saturday (December 25), the IMD issued an update, stating that light to moderate rainfall is probable over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi from December 26-29, over Rajasthan from December 27-28, and scattered to fairly over Uttar Pradesh from December 27-29.
According to the IMD update, thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms are also expected throughout Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh on December 28.
"Light/moderate isolated to scattered rainfall over Madhya Pradesh and north Odisha during 27th-29th of December, and over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal during 28th-29th of December, with isolated thunderstorm, lightning, and hailstorm also likely over West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Marathwada on 28th; over Chhattisgarh on 29th and over East Madhya Pradesh during 28th-29th December,” it said.
The IMD has also predicted hailstorms in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur. "Light/moderate isolated to scattered rainfall is highly possible throughout Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during the next 5 days," according to the statement.
Thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms are also expected over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur in the next 24 hours, according to the IMD bulletin.
The IMD also forecasted that there will be no cold wave conditions in the country during the next five days.
Minimum temperatures will fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius over most of northwest India during the next three days, with no significant change over the next three days.
Furthermore, no major change in minimum temperatures is expected throughout central and eastern India during next five days.
During the next three days, dense fog in isolated pockets is very likely across Punjab, Haryana, and north Rajasthan during night/morning hours, according to the forecast.
