Sagar Parikrama Yatra Phase-XI Concludes with Coastal Triumph in Odisha's Vibrant Districts

Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Parshottam Rupala interacted with beneficiaries under the PMMSY, felicitating them with KCC and distributing assets like motorcycles with ice boxes.

On the third day of the Sagar Parikrama Yatra Phase-XI, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Parshottam Rupala, took charge at Chandinipal in Bhadrak district, Odisha. The minister engaged with beneficiaries, including fishermen, fisherwomen, and members of PFCS, discussing the challenges faced by approximately 10,000 fishermen dependent on the renowned Chandinipal fish landing center. The dry fish produced at this center are celebrated throughout India.

During the event, Minister Rupala assured the fishing community that necessary steps would be taken to address challenges, emphasizing the improvement of market infrastructure with a focus on hygiene.

Commitment to Fisheries Sector Development

Minister Rupala highlighted the significant impact of the PMMSY scheme on the fisheries sector in India. The scheme aims to boost fish production and productivity through modern and scientific methods, ultimately increasing income for fishermen and enhancing food security and nutrition.

Major Initiatives Unveiled for Odisha's Fisheries Sector

Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, Secretary (Fisheries), shared key initiatives and projects worth approximately Rs 1071 Cr. sanctioned in Odisha. These projects include aqua parks, fish landing centers, and fishing harbors, showcasing the government's commitment to the welfare and livelihood of fishermen. Letters were issued during the event, signaling the construction of a Modern Fish Retail Market and modernization of existing Ice Plants.

Distribution of KCC, Auto-Rickshaws & Cheques to PMMSY Beneficiaries

The Sagar Parikrama Yatra continued at Dhamara Fishing Harbour in Bhadrak, where Minister Rupala personally interacted with fishers on the field, ensuring the effective implementation of the schemes. The program later extended to Chudamani in Bhadrak district and Chandipur Fishing Harbour in Balasore district, witnessing the distribution of benefits like KCC, auto-rickshaws with ice boxes, and cheques to PMMSY beneficiaries.

Union Minister Rupala expressed confidence in the substantial impact of the PMMSY program on the Indian fisheries sector. He thanked the fishermen and fish farmers for sharing their experiences and valuable suggestions, concluding the Sagar Parikrama Phase-XI with resounding success and a profound impact.

The objectives of Sagar Parikrama Yatra Phase-XI, which began on January 7, 2024, were to: promote responsible fishing, highlight best practices, foster interaction with fishermen, coastal communities, and stakeholders; disseminate information about various government schemes and programs related to fisheries; and show solidarity with all fishermen and stakeholders. The campaign has been remarkably successful in achieving these goals.
