
NIRF Rankings 2025: On Thursday, September 04, 2025, Union Ministry of Education released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025. The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in New Delhi secured the top spot in the Agriculture and Allied Sectors category, achieving a score of 89.23 points. This result reaffirms IARI's status as the premier agricultural research and education institution in the country.
ICAR–National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal, retained its second place with 75.87 points, while the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, stood third with 75.83 points. PAU’s Vice-Chancellor Satbir Singh Gosal received the award at the Delhi ceremony.
IARI, popularly known as the Pusa Institute, also secured the second position in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Institutions ranking, reflecting its increasing emphasis on sustainability. Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director of IARI, along with Dr. Anupama Singh, Joint Director (Education), received the award on behalf of the institute.

First introduced in 2015 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the NIRF has since become the benchmark for higher education rankings in India. This is the 10th edition of the NIRF rankings, which assess institutions on parameters such as teaching, research, graduation outcomes, inclusivity, and peer perception. For 2025, rankings were announced in 17 categories, including a new SDG category.
In the overall NIRF 2025 rankings, IIT Madras retained its top position, followed by IISc Bengaluru and IIT Bombay.
