Rainfall will be moderate to heavy over northwest and east India for the next three days, with the highest intensity expected tomorrow (Monday, May 23). From Sunday to Tuesday (May 24), widespread to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms are expected over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
On May 23 and 24, the weather prediction office predicts isolated hailstorms in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, as well as Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh on May 23. On Monday, Punjab and J&K are predicted to get a lot of rain.
Rainfall is expected in Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha over the next five days in the eastern area.
The weather office stated in its advisory that rainfall is likely in various northwestern states due to southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to the northeast and neighboring east India at lower tropospheric levels.
Light to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms will occur over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim during the next two days, with rainfall intensity decreasing thereafter, according to the update. From Monday, however, some of these states will see isolated heavy rain.
The IMD predicts a drop in maximum temperatures of 3-5 degrees Celsius over many parts of northwest and central India over the next three days, followed by a rise of 2-4 degrees Celsius.
Since Saturday, the Indian region has experienced a cooling period. "During the next 3-4 days, no heatwave conditions are predicted to develop over any part of the country," the weather service warned.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for at least 10 districts in Kerala, and the Idukki district administration has opened the shutters of the Kallarkutty and Pambla dams to release surplus water on Saturday and Sunday.
IMD has issued a Yellow alert for the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, and Kozhikode for today, while Wayanad has a Yellow alert for May 23.
