The Indian Metrological Department (IMD) forecast on Saturday that heat waves will persist in Northwest and Central India until 2 May, and in East India until 30 April, before abating.
As per IMD reports, temperatures in North India may reach 50 degrees Celsius. According to the trends, Dr. M Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology, May is normally the "hottest month."
On Saturday, rain gave reprieve from the searing heat in West Bengal's southern regions. In the evening, moderate rains fell over Kolkata, its neighboring Howrah and North 24 Parganas districts, as well as other portions of south Bengal. According to news agency PTI, a squall swept over Kolkata from the northwest around 7:20 p.m., with winds gusting up to 64 km/h. A meteorological service representative stated that while 11.3 mm of rain was recorded in Alipore observatory (south Kolkata), 27.6 mm was reported in Dumdum (north Kolkata).
According to news agency ANI, the top IMD scientist stated that "the average maximum temperature over northwest and central India in April was the highest in the past 122 years, with 35.90 degrees Celsius and 37.78 degrees Celsius respectively."
Due to the rising electricity use, numerous states in the country have experienced power outages this week due to a coal scarcity.
The meteorological service also stated that a Low-Pressure Area might occur over the south Andaman Sea on May 5th.
According to the IMD, heat waves are expected to persist in several areas of West Rajasthan on April 30 and May 1. On the 1st of May, severe heat wave conditions will continue throughout West Rajasthan, with temperatures progressively decreasing in certain areas on the 2nd and 3rd of May, as per the IMD.
On April 30, severe heat wave conditions will persist over East Uttar Pradesh.
A strong heatwave will hit West Madhya Pradesh and East Rajasthan from April 30 to May 3.
The same will hit Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, East Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Jammu Division, and Vidarbha from April 30 to May 2, according to the IMD.
On the 30th and 1st of May, extreme heatwave conditions are expected in West Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.
On April 30, interior Odisha, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Madhya Maharashtra may be hit by a heat wave.
