The Experts from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research - Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (ICAR-IIHR) Bengaluru shared the latest horticultural technologies on Tuesday with farmers during a day-long training-cum-seminar which was organized by the district administration jointly with the ICAR-IIHR and Spices Park, Sivaganga district.
In the Sivaganga district, the event was jointly organized by the district administration, ICAR-IIHR, and Spices Park.
Sivaganga Collector P. Madhusudhan Reddy presided over the training program and highlighted the various welfare programs offered by the Tamil Nadu government for farmers. He encouraged them to form Farmers' Producers Organizations (FPOs) and mentioned the assistance provided by NABARD in numerous ways.
The farmers in S. Pudur Panchayat Union, known for their vegetable and papaya production were urged to learn about preservation techniques and the benefits of value addition.
The progressive farmers, particularly those involved in chilli and turmeric cultivation, were welcomed to utilize the infrastructure available at Spices Park. Reddy emphasized the reputation and uniqueness of the chilli varieties grown in the region.
The training session included talks by ICAR-IIHR Principal scientists R. Senthil Kumar and V. Shankar, as well as officers from the Horticulture department, Spices Park Manager P. Bose, Regional Coordinator (Seeds) Jeevanandam, and others.
The speakers urged the farmers to adopt new techniques and stay informed about the latest developments to achieve higher crop yields.
Additionally, as a part of the event, the Collector distributed certified seed varieties to the participants.
