‘Extremely Heavy Rainfall’ Alert in These States Today, Air Quality of Delhi-NCR Deteriorates

The Meteorological Department of India has predicted ‘extremely heavy rainfall’ along with heavy thunderstorms over Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Odisha, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 24 hours and extremely heavy falls over Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka on 25th October. It is also issued thunderstorm alert accompanied by lightning very likely over parts of Coastal India, east and central states during the next 24 hours. On the other hand, the air quality of the national capital is reported to be deteriorated on Wednesday. However, the condition during this Diwali is "likely not to be as bad as last year", says the authority. The air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 244 against Tuesday's 206, according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on Wednesday.

“The Well Marked Low-Pressure Area lies over east-central Arabian Sea & neighborhood with the associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 4.5 km above mean sea level. It is very likely to concentrate on a Depression during the next 12 hours and into a Cyclonic Storm during the subsequent 48 hours. It is likely to move initially east-northeastwards over the east-central Arabian Sea till 25th October and then west-northwestwards with gradual intensification. The other Well Marked Low-Pressure Area lies over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & neighborhood. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to mid-tropospheric level tilting southwestwards with height”, said the weather department in its morning bulletin. 

Most places over Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Lakshadweep, South Interior Karnataka observed light shower along with heavy rainfall while a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Odisha, Madhya Maharashtra, Gangetic West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu lashed with heavy rainfall. 

As per yesterday’s report, maximum temperatures are reported above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at a few places over West Rajasthan and at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Assam & Meghalaya and Andaman & Nicobar Islands while minimum temperatures were recorded above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over Madhya Pradesh and Gangetic West Bengal; at isolated places over Saurashtra & Kutch, Madhya Maharashtra, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
