Sejal Kumar Kanubhai Patel owns the Ramwadi farm, at Boriavi, Anand. He was in conversation with the Editor, Agriculture World, Dr. Lakshmi Unnithan. Sejal Kumar has been farming since the last 15 years. He has been always doing organic farming. He is much connected with the Gujarat Organic Farmer Association and Madhya Gujarat Kheti Samaj. He specializes in crops like ginger and turmeric (Salem, Rajapuri) amba turmeric (white turmeric) potato, purple yum, elephant yam, banana, colocasia, & green vegetables.
Since 2006 he has been doing value addition of ginger and turmeric and sells it through the brand name Ramwadi organic farm. His products are in much demand nationally and globally. His farm is Certified Organic. After harvesting, they are harvested, washed, and dried during the months of March. After sun drying they graded and they are rolled and scraped and then powdered.
He grows Colocasia and Yams also extensively and value addition is also been done and the products are exported. The farming of Colcoasia is been done for many years says Sejalji and their region grows a lot of Colocasia. Colocasia esculenta is a tropical plant grown primarily for its edible corms and leaves. It is a root vegetable and most commonly known as taro. The crop which Sejal Ji is cultivating is been bought from chikhli village (South Gujarat) by his grandfather. Apart from us, he says Colocasia is grown in 200 HQ in the surrounding villages at present. The Colocasia leaves for eating purposes in whole Gujarat is supplied by his village. Through Value addition they make 3 kinds of items which are made by its leaves. Fried Colocasia tubers, steam/ boiled Colocasia tubers, and Patra from Colocasia leaves are all snacks made. He claims that his village is famous for Colocasia Patra in Gujarat. Patra is a very popular and delicious Gujarati Snack. It is sinfully tasty and amazing. It is a little sweet, sour, and moderately spicy. Fresh and green colocasia leaves are very essential.
