Farmers can use these government allotted advisories for crop cultivation and animal husbandry purposes to get the most out of their yields by following these guidelines till 18th May 2022. After that, an updated advisory should be followed for the best practices. Keep visiting Krishi Jagran to get the updated advisory.

General Advisory: Given the weather, farmers are advised to carefully dry the grains of wheat, pigeon pea, and rabi maize and store them in a safe place to give top priority. Farmers are advised to leave the vacant land open by plowing it with an earth-turning plow.

  • The mango mealybug insect-pest attack should be monitored.

  • If there is a large population of pests at the plant, a spray of Dimethoate 30EC @ 1.0ml/liter of water is recommended.

  • Spraying with Imidacloprid 17.8 SL and Hexaconazole@1gram/2 liters of water or Dainocap 46 EC@1 ml/liter of water is recommended. This will help in the control of mango hoppers and powdery mildew disease.

  • Fruit drops can be prevented by using a plant growth regulator like Planofix (Napthyl Acetic Acid-NAA) @1ml/3 liters of water.

Crop Specific Advisory:

Maize- Irrigate rabi maize that is in the reproductive stage. Poor yields are caused by a lack of sufficient soil moisture at this stage.

Rice- Farmers should plant dhaincha for green manure in their Kharif paddy fields.

Litchi- There is a chance of rain in the next five days, so irrigate the mango and litchi orchard if you need to. Farmers are instructed to mix one gram of Acephate with one liter of water and spray it only when the weather is clear to protect mango and litchi crops from insect infestation.

Tomato- Infested fruits and shoots should be collected and buried inside the soil to reduce shoot and fruit borer in brinjal and tomato crops. Spraying Spinosad 48 EC @ 1 ml /4 liters of water is recommended if the insect population is large.

Green Gram- Insect infestation in mung beans is a risk with the current weather. Farmers are advised to keep an eye on their crops. If the moong crop is infected with leaf borer, spray Profenophos at a rate of 2 ml per liter of water on clear bright days.

Livestock Specific Advisory:

Cow- Farmers should get the HSBQ vaccine this month to protect themselves from diseases like Hemorrhagic Septicaemia and cow throat fever. Given the probability of rain, farmers are encouraged to keep their livestock clean and in a clean, dry environment to prevent disease.

Buffalo- Provide clean water to the dairy animals and shelter them during the day.

Poultry Specific Advisory:

Chicken- To prevent dehydration in birds, farmers should provide cool drinking water three times a day. To reduce heat stress, farmers can add electrolyte/glucose to the drinking water of poultry birds.
