Sartaj Khan is a progressive farmer from a small village in the Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Through his hard work, modern thinking, and use of technology, he has transformed sugarcane farming into a profitable business. He currently earns more than one crore rupees annually by cultivating improved varieties of sugarcane. Sartaj Khan considers farming not just a means of livelihood, but a form of social service and a source of inspiration.

He has not only achieved personal success but has also shown a new path to the farmers around him. His story serves as an inspiration for every farmer. Recently, Sartaj Khan became a part of Krishi Jagran’s initiative, the "Global Farmer Business Network."

The tradition of sugarcane farming in Sartaj Khan's family dates back nearly 50 years. His father was also a skilled farmer who taught him the intricacies of agriculture from a young age. His father's teachings instilled in him a deep respect and love for farming.

Carrying forward the family tradition, Sartaj embraced agriculture with a modern approach and innovative mindset. He realized that with hard work in the right direction, farming could become a successful and sustainable business.

Sartaj Khan owns a total of 70 acres of land, out of which he cultivates sugarcane on 50 acres. He has named his farm "Shahid Farms," which has now become a well-known identity in the surrounding area.

He grows high-yielding sugarcane varieties such as 13235, 0118, 14201, and 16202. These varieties produce approximately 720 quintals per acre, providing him with substantial profits.

Sartaj uses the trench method for sugarcane cultivation, in which two-eyed sugarcane setts are sown. This technique promotes better germination and healthy plant growth.

He maintains a row spacing of 2.5 to 4 feet, which makes crop maintenance easier. For farming operations, he uses a power tiller in narrow spaces and a mini tractor for larger areas.

Sartaj Khan also practices mixed cropping. Along with sugarcane, he cultivates crops like mustard, cauliflower, cabbage, wheat, gram, and peas. This strategy helps him cover his costs and generates additional income.

The cost of sugarcane cultivation for him is about Rs 40,000 per acre, and there are around 7,20,000 buds per acre, which contributes to his high income.

Sartaj Khan's story proves that by adopting modern techniques, the right crop varieties, and mixed cropping methods, farming can indeed be turned into a profitable business. Today, he stands as a role model and a source of inspiration for thousands of farmers.
