Pearl Farming: It is likely that in today’s time the focus of many youth of the country is moving towards agriculture. Shwetank Pathak of Narayanpur village in Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh is one of them. The farmers who are moving away from traditional farming are cultivating beads which are giving them a different identity.
Shwetank has completed his B.Ed. After which he tried his hand in the cultivation of beads. Through which he is also giving employment to other people.

Shwetank said that he got the inspiration to cultivate pearls first through a village committee. After this, he extracted information through the Internet and with the help of the committee started cultivating beads. For this, a puddle was prepared near the house under the guidance of the committee. In which, he kept the oyster brought from the river. They kept some oysters in an old pond, which keeps them alive. It is to be noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also praised Shwetank’s work in the tweet.
How to prepare pearls?
Shwetank further added that I am currently cultivating cultured pearls, which are ready in 12-13 months. The beads are polished before being marketed. He also said that there are three types of pearls. One is artificial pearl, the other is natural pearl (prepared in the sea) and cultured pearl. Shwetank cultivates cultured pearls, which he shaves according to his own.
For this, the powder is made first of the sheep from which nucleus is made which is put in pearl armor. After some time, the shape of the ship becomes pearl. For this, he has also taken training from Odisha institute.
How much is earned from pearl farming?
According to Shwetank, pearl cultivation can start at a very low cost. For this, the land of 10 by 12 will be required. Initially it costs Rs 50000 for the cultivation of pearls. He also said that for this you must have a good understanding of the sheep. A good sheep must be 2 years old, weighs 35 grams and length 6 cm. Shwetank tells about his earnings that his pearl is sold from Rs 90- Rs 200 in the market.
