Diversified Crop Cultivation
In an interview with Krishi Jagran, Khet Singh shared that he has been cultivating the land since approximately 2009, managing around 38.19 acres of fertile land, where his entire family participates in farming. Singh mainly focuses on cultivating peanuts, guar, pearl millet, cumin, fenugreek, mung beans, chickpeas, psyllium, and mustard, adjusting the crops according to the season and market demand.
100 Quintals of Peanut Production
Singh detailed that the cost of cultivating crops like peanuts and mung beans amounts to nearly one lakh rupees. However, the annual expenses for all crops can reach up to 10 to 12 lakhs. He achieves an annual production of up to 100 quintals of peanuts, with the price contingent on the weather and quality of the peanuts. Additionally, Singh engages in cultivating nearly 50 quintals of mung beans per season, highlighting the influence of weather conditions on crop production and market prices.
Supplementing Income through Livestock
Apart from farming, Singh indulges in livestock rearing, specifically dairy farming, generating additional income. Presently, he owns ten cows, out of which five are milk-producing. Through his dairy business, Singh earns between 15,000 and 17,000 rupees per month, with about 5,000 to 6,000 rupees allocated to fodder expenses. Despite all expenses, he managed to secure profits of up to 10,000 rupees.
Challenges and Suggestions
Singh faces several challenges during farming, especially regarding low-voltage electricity, leading to significant losses. Despite this, he advises fellow farmers to apply fertilizers and sow seeds on time, maintaining timely irrigation. He emphasizes the importance of promptly addressing crop diseases to avoid adverse effects on yield.
