Paddy farming in the Kharif season is the pillar of Indian agriculture and the foundation of the nation's food security. However, over the last few years, issues like unpredictable weather, high input prices, and declining yields have placed farmers under severe stress. Under such a scenario, a better Basmati paddy variety called Kokila-33, which has been created by Shakti Vardhak Hybrid Seeds, has proved to be a game-changing solution.
Kokila-33 not only matures in a shorter period but also offers high productivity at low cost, with excellent disease resistance. From Punjab to Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the variety has gained huge popularity and emerged as a dependable alternative for thousands of farmers.

Key Features of Kokila-33: Quick Maturity, High Yield
The greatest advantage of Kokila-33 is that it matures within a span of only 105 to 110 days, while the maturity period of the traditional varieties is 120–130 days. Its flowering period at 50% is merely 88 days, which assists in quicker crop rotation. The plant grows to a moderate height of 92–96 cm with a strong stem, minimizing the chances of lodging (falling crops).
Kokila-33 yields long, slender, and lustrous seeds that are much sought after in the market and command premium prices. Using American micro-shell technology in treating the seeds, these seeds are well capable of withstanding common pests and diseases.
This crop falls under the PB-1692 and PB-1509 group, but farmers cultivate Kokila-33 because it is more adaptable, requires less irrigation, and has a yield capacity of up to 30–32 quintals per acre.
Farmers' Experiences: Kokila-33 Became a Reliable Crop
Progressive farmer Gurnam Singh of Ludhiana district in Punjab is an experienced farmer cultivating hybrid paddy for years now. He planted Shaktivardhak Company 's variety Kokila-33 in 2 acres of land for the first time during the Kharif season of 2024. He said, " Among all the varieties which I have planted till now, Kokila-33 was superior. The crop growth was good right from the start and the plants were absolutely healthy until the final stage. I obtained more than 30 quintals of yield per acre, much higher than my expectation. The best aspect was that this variety needed fewer pesticides and fertilizers, decreasing my expenses as well as boosting the profit. Henceforth, I will prioritize this variety annually."

Anuj Yadav of Etah district of Uttar Pradesh is a progressive farmer who thinks of undertaking new experiments in agriculture. He experimented with Kokila-33 for the first time in 2023. His experience was extremely good. He told us, " The grains of this crop have a tremendous lustre and the whole field looks full of homogenous ears. I do not find any type of disease or pest attack in the crop. The requirement for irrigation is also minimal and my overall cost on the crop is less than previously. That is why I have decided to plant only Kokila-33 this year too. This crop is highly suitable for small farmers like me."

Ramakant Trivedi, a progressive farmer from Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh, who grows Kokila-33 in his 20 bigha farm, claimed that Kokila-33 turned his farming in a new direction. " The nursery of this crop was prepared in just 25 days, and because the plants were of medium height, the crop never fell down. The shopkeeper had informed me that this is a 105-110 days crop and indeed the crop was completely ready in 105 days. The ear size and the grain quality were so excellent that even the customers were pleased. I will depend only on this crop in the coming years too."

Tarsem Singh, a farmer from Sangrur district in Punjab, has been growing paddy for decades. He is greatly enthused about Kokila-33. He explained, " This variety provides very good yield even in less water. Its greatest speciality is that the crop doesn't fall and no disease occurs during the whole season. The quality is so fine that my paddy fetches a high price in the market. Now I recommend to other farmers at least once to test this variety."

Sukhchain Singh, a progressive farmer from Patiala district of Punjab, planted Kokila-33 for the first time in 2023 and now has it as his regular crop. He explained, " The stem of the crop is highly strong, because of which the crop never falls even in windy or rainy weather. The grains are extremely glossy and free from any marks. This commands better prices in the market. I could not find any disease in this variety, which also saved me the cost of spraying pesticides. Previously I had experimented with seeds from various companies, but Kokila-33 is unique."
Progressive farmer Rajendra Kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district, grew Kokila-33 for the first time in 2024 and it was a memorable experience for him. He said, " I have planted many varieties, but Kokila-33 provided me with a yield of 26 quintals per acre, the highest till now. The crop was green until the harvesting time and there was no impact of any disease or pest. Now I am thinking of keeping this variety as my permanent one ."

Dharmendra Rajput, a farmer from Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh, who has been growing paddy for decades, has reaped rich dividends with Kokila-33. He added, " The uniqueness of this variety is that it matures very soon and the grains are extremely clean. It is disease-free, which boosts yield and also commands a good price in the market. Of all the varieties I have so far grown, Kokila-33 has pleased me the most. I suggest all farmers give it a try."
Bhupendra Sahu, a progressive farmer from the Durg district of Chhattisgarh, resides in a region that is prone to heavy rains and storms. Nevertheless, Kokila-33 failed him not. He stated, " Where other crops were lost in the heavy storm, my Kokila-33 crop withstood it. This raised my expectations and when the harvesting time arrived, the output was also greater than earlier. All this has been made possible because of the quality and vigor of this seed. I am now planning to plant this variety in all seasons."
Kokila-33 is a revolutionary Basmati variety in the age of climate change and growing farming expenses. Farmers in a variety of agroclimatic zones find it to be a viable and sustainable option due to its short duration, high yield, low input requirements, and premium grain quality. With increasing farmer adoption and consistent performance in the field, Kokila-33 is no longer just a paddy variety—it is a symbol of hope, trust, and prosperity in modern Indian agriculture.
