Lakhan Yadav, hailing from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, stands as a remarkable example of how vision and innovation can transform Indian agriculture. With a business career spanning over two decades in real estate and import-export since 1999, Lakhan has seamlessly transitioned into a full-time farmer and agripreneur. His journey from corporate boardrooms to fertile fields not only inspires but also offers a compelling roadmap for sustainable and profitable farming in India.
Though deeply immersed in business, Lakhan never lost touch with his agricultural roots. As the son of a farmer, he has always carried a profound respect for the land and a natural curiosity about farming. This connection fueled his determination to reimagine agriculture—not merely as a cultural heritage but as a scalable, impactful, and economically viable enterprise.

Turning Point: Real Estate to Roots
The year 2014 marked a pivotal point in Lakhan’s life. Despite his successful businesses, he began to deeply engage with agriculture, initially as a subject of interest, which soon turned into full-fledged research and experimentation. He was particularly focused on understanding why farmers struggle to earn decent profits despite working hard. Lakhan believed there was something fundamentally missing in the way farming was approached, and he was determined to find a better way.
He spent the next few years experimenting with over 30 different crops and farming methods, ranging from modern agriculture to medicinal, exotic, and orchard farming. While these trials yielded valuable insights, none brought the breakthrough he was looking for. But Lakhan's perseverance never wavered.

Bamboo Revolution
By 2018, Lakhan found his calling in an unexpected crop, bamboo. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that bamboo would be categorized as grass and not as a tree under the Indian Forest Act, it opened new avenues for commercial cultivation. Sensing an opportunity, Lakhan purchased 100 acres of land to begin bamboo farming on a large scale.
However, the bamboo journey came with its own set of challenges. For instance, the plant doesn't yield harvestable produce for the first five years, which is a long wait for any farmer. Moreover, Lakhan discovered that while bamboo is a hardy crop and can be cultivated in almost any soil, its deep roots and high nutrient absorption gradually began depleting the soil quality of his agricultural land.
Still, once the bamboo matured, it required minimal upkeep and began generating consistent income. Lakhan's foresight started paying off, and he soon became a regional pioneer, encouraging other farmers to explore bamboo as a sustainable crop option.

From Crops to Consciousness: Embracing Natural Farming
Lakhan’s innovative streak didn’t stop with bamboo. The COVID-19 pandemic forced many to rethink their lifestyles and health choices, and Lakhan was no exception. Observing the decline in people's health, he traced the issue back to its source: the soil.
According to Lakhan, “If the soil is sick, how can the crops grown in it be healthy?” He realized that nutrient-depleted soils, exhausted by years of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, were producing food that lacked real nutrition, directly impacting public health.
Driven by this insight, he began adopting Natural farming practices. On 40 acres of his land, he started cultivating wheat, maize, vegetables, pulses, fruits, and even cotton using strictly Natural methods. His mission was clear: rebuild soil health to grow nutrient-rich food that would nourish both people and the planet.

Building a Movement: Farmer Mobilization and Education
Lakhan understood that transforming agriculture wasn’t a one-man job. He made it his mission to educate and empower fellow farmers to make the shift toward Natural practices. Through consistent outreach, he successfully brought many local farmers on board. Today, he is actively involved in forming Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) to provide structured guidance and collective strength to the Natural movement.
These organizations help farmers access training, shared resources, and better marketing opportunities, laying a foundation for community-driven agricultural reform.

Cracking the Market: The Birth of SS Amrutva
Despite his achievements on the field, Lakhan faced a major roadblock in the marketplace. His Naturally grown produce, despite being healthier and more sustainable, was fetching the same price as conventional, chemically-laden crops. This discrepancy threatened to demoralize farmers who had worked hard to grow clean food.
Lakhan realized that without fair market returns, Natural farming would remain financially unviable for most. Drawing from his business acumen and networks, he launched SS Amrutva, his very own marketing channel. The aim was simple: cut out the middlemen and deliver farmers’ produce directly to consumers at a fair price and develop a clean ‘farm to fork’ model.

This platform allowed Natural growers to earn what they truly deserved while providing consumers access to genuinely clean and healthy food. Today, thanks to SS Amrutva, Lakhan's agro-enterprise clocks an impressive Rs 2 crore in annual turnover, generated from both bamboo cultivation and Natural farming.
