Mohan Singh, a progressive farmer from Himachal Pradesh, has transformed his financial situation through natural farming, becoming an inspiration for his community. Today, he earns an impressive annual profit of Rs 15 lakh, showcasing the rewards of sustainable agriculture. His success is a testament to his hard work and dedication to natural farming principles.

After leaving his abroad, Mohan returned to his village with a strong desire to pursue farming and make a meaningful impact. He initially followed conventional chemical-based practices but soon realized their long-term drawbacks. Determined to find a better way, he embraced natural farming, and there was no looking back. Today, his chemical-free vegetables are not only enriching the soil but also commanding high demand in major markets like Delhi and Chandigarh.

From Foreign Job to Village Farming

Mohan Singh previously worked in countries like Qatar and Saudi Arabia. During his time abroad, he noticed the high demand for organic Indian products, which were sold at premium prices in these markets. This inspired him to leave his job overseas and return to his village to take up farming. Initially, he practiced chemical-based farming, which yielded good produce but came with high expenses. In 2018, he shifted to natural farming, which not only reduced his agricultural costs but also boosted his production and profits.

Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Natural Farming

When Mohan Singh began natural farming, he faced numerous challenges. In his village and the surrounding areas, most farmers relied on chemical farming and showed little interest in natural methods. Speaking to ‘Krishi Jagran,’ Mohan Singh shared that he initially had many doubts as well. However, after using natural inputs like 'Jeevamrut' and 'Dashparni Ark' on his fields and witnessing their positive results, he felt encouraged. He observed that natural farming not only improved the quality of his crops but also effectively controlled pests and diseases.

Benefits of Natural Farming 

Progressive farmer Mohan Singh shared the numerous advantages he has experienced through natural farming. He explained that this method eliminates the need for chemical pesticides to protect crops from pests and diseases. This not only reduced his farming costs but also increased production.

Additionally, he noted that vegetables and fruits grown through natural farming stay fresh for longer and are of superior quality. Moreover, natural farming enhances the fertility of the soil, ensuring sustainable and high-quality harvests for years to come.

Diverse Range of Crops Grown with Sustainable Methods

Progressive farmer Mohan Singh cultivates a wide variety of crops using natural farming methods. He grows cucumbers, French beans, cabbages, peas, tomatoes, radishes, turnips, coriander, spinach, and other vegetables. Additionally, he has adopted natural farming practices in his mango orchards and for other fruits. According to Mohan Singh, the crops produced through natural farming are of superior quality and enjoy higher demand in the market.

"Mohan Singh is also associated with an FPO (Farmer Producer Organization), which makes it easier for him to market his vegetables and other produce. Through the FPO, he is able to reach larger markets and secure better prices for his products.

Boosting Production and Profits with Natural Farming

Mohan Singh has not only reduced his agricultural costs by adopting natural farming but has also increased both production and profits. He shared that the cost of natural farming is just Rs 6,000 per bigha, which includes the price of seeds.

In contrast, the costs involved in chemical farming are significantly higher. Mohan Singh revealed that by practicing natural farming on 5 bighas of land, he earns an annual profit of Rs 15 lakhs. His produce is sold in major markets such as Delhi and Chandigarh.

Beyond his financial success, Mohan Singh has become a torchbearer for sustainable agriculture. He openly shares his experiences and knowledge, encouraging fellow farmers to adopt natural farming methods.
