Sharad Kumar Singh, a resident of Harganpur village in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh has paved the way for lucrative dairy and poultry farming while cultivating crops earning profits in the lakhs.

Sharad Kumar Singh, a B.A. graduate, embarked on his farming journey in 1991 with a modest 7-acre land. Today, he manages nearly 40 acres, a significant portion leased for cultivation.

Diversifying the Harvest

In his cultivated land, Sharad Kumar Singh engages in the cultivation of wheat, barley, rice, pulses, sesame, and various vegetables. However, his agricultural prowess extends beyond traditional crops, as he also delves into dairy farming and poultry, rearing cows and chickens, respectively.

Balancing Costs and Earnings

Speaking about the financial dynamics, Sharad Kumar Singh reveals that the annual cost of dairy and poultry farming amounts to approximately 2 lakh rupees, yielding an income of around 5 lakhs. Simultaneously, the cultivation of wheat, barley, rice, pulses, sesame, and vegetables involves costs of nearly 10 lakhs, with earnings ranging from 18 to 19 lakhs.

Sharad Kumar Singh, speaking to Krishi Jagran, shares insights from his experiences, emphasising the need for farmers to dedicate themselves to agriculture. He advocates the incorporation of new technologies into farming practices, encouraging fellow farmers to learn and adopt innovative techniques. According to Singh, leveraging modern technologies in agriculture not only reduces costs but also maximizes profits, ensuring a sustainable and prosperous future for the farming community.

Throughout the series of success stories, we have observed a growing inclination among increasingly literate individuals toward farming and the adoption of modern farming techniques. This trend aims to enhance profits and fully utilize available land. Additionally, it has been notable that a majority of farmers also participate in supplementary activities such as dairy farming, fisheries, poultry, etc.
