Jairam Gaikwad, a farmer of village Bagholi in Betul district, is earning Rs 35 lakh annually by using only 10 acres out of his 30 acres for organic farming. Jayaram is cultivating sugarcane in five acres, vermicompost unit in two acres, cowshed and dung gas plant, organic wheat in one and a half acres and organic vegetables in the remaining one and a half acres.
He has 55 cows in the gaushala, from which he gets about 150 liters of milk daily.
Jairam says that he is doing organic farming for the last 15 years after getting registered with Madhya Pradesh State Organic Certification Organization, Bhopal. He told that from sugarcane he manufactures organic jaggery, which is sold in the market at a good price of Rs 60 per kg.
He sells the morning milk in the market and from the evening milk, he prepares and sells mawa, paneer, curd and matha. This gives them a good income.
He told that they also make vermicompost as organic manure, from the sale of which they are getting good income and promoting organic farming. He told that he keeps on updating his work and knowledge with the new technology in the agriculture sector by interacting with the officers of the Farmers' Welfare and Agriculture Development Department if needed.
Now farmers from nearby villages have also started coming to take guidance from Jairam.
