Devendra Singh abandoned his government job to venture into agriculture and horticulture. With degrees like double M.A. and B.Ed., Singh's story exemplifies the growing trend of individuals finding financial success and fulfillment in farming than in traditional employment. With nearly fourteen acres of land, Singh cultivates guavas, and sugarcane, and recently experimented with soybean cultivation. This shift not only reflects Singh's dedication but also challenges societal norms regarding career choices.

The Diverse Agriculture Portfolio

Devendra Singh has diversified his farming endeavors, cultivating various types of sugarcane, including varieties like 006 and 198. Additionally, he engages in the cultivation of poplar (cottonwood) and eucalyptus trees. Singh also prunes old trees, yielding substantial profits by selling poplar tree saplings to fellow farmers at about Rs 40 each. Poplar trees mature in approximately six years, while eucalyptus trees are ready for harvest in four years.

Bountiful Harvest and Financial Gains

Presently, Singh takes care of 2000 poplar and 2000 eucalyptus trees on his farm, alongside eight acres dedicated to sugarcane cultivation. His annual yield per acre for sugarcane averages between 400 to 450 quintals. Singh directly supplies his sugarcane produce to mills, securing a substantial annual income.

Financial Returns

Singh shared that the cost of cultivation for sugarcane is around Rs. 40,000 per acre, with profits ranging from Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 85,000 per acre. The overall annual profit from all crops amounts to approximately Rs 10,00,000. These figures underline the financial viability of Singh's agricultural endeavors.

Encouraging Agricultural Pursuits

Devendra Singh passionately advocates for more individuals to embrace farming, emphasising that genuine dedication can lead to significant profits. He encourages the youth to consider agriculture as a viable career option, asserting that instilling a love for farming in the younger generation is essential. Singh, who is imparting farming skills to his son, believes that a genuine passion for agriculture is priceless.​
