To fight Glyphosate resistance, BASF launched Zidua

As per sources, BASF is soon to launch its product Zidua in India. It’s a new class of herbicide chemistry for wheat that offers the lowest use rate of any Group 15 herbicide with broad spectrum control of small-seeded broadleaf weeds and grasses. And it provides application flexibility from delayed-pre to early post in wheat. It’s also a superior tool for protecting fields from troublesome yield-robbing weeds and grasses, especially those resistant to glyphosate.

No other residual herbicide can control resistant pigweed like Zidua herbicide. For the past several years, various small-seeded broadleaf weeds and grasses have been growing resistant to different herbicides. Zidua circumvents this resistance, providing growers with effective, long-lasting residual weed control.

Zidua is the only solo product of its kind, providing growers with unmatched application flexibility from fall through early preplant and early postemergence. Quite simply, growers can determine their own schedule for using this remarkable herbicide. Effective rates are eight to 10 times lower than current commercial standards with similar use patterns.

Extensive field research demonstrates that Zidua provides superior residual control of resistant Palmer pigweed and waterhemp up to 10 percent  better and up to three weeks longer than other preemergence herbicides such as dimethenamid-p, acetochlor or s-metolachlor.

Ten years of research have culminated in the discovery of pyroxasulfone — the breakthrough active ingredient in Zidua. Pyroxasulfone is an isoxazoline, a new class of chemistry that delivers higher intrinsic activity and a broader spectrum of control of small-seeded broadleaf weeds and grasses.

Research trials have proven that Zidua SC herbicide provides residual control in corn and soybeans lasting up to two weeks longer than other herbicides. As the only solo product of its kind in soybeans, Zidua SC herbicide provides application flexibility from fall through early preplant to early postemergence in corn and soybeans.

For resistance management, Zidua SC herbicide helps growers manage weed resistance, providing outstanding control on weeds and grasses proven resistant to ALS-inhibitors, glyphosate, ACCase and Triazines.
