It acts as a stomach and contact insecticide. IRUKA causes a permanent blocking of postsynaptic nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, which causes neurons to become hyperexcited. Convulsions and hyperexcitation are followed by the insects' eventual paralysis which eventually results in the death of the insects.
