Government Model Schools have been started with the motto of providing quality education from Classes VI to XII to the unreached, deprived and disadvantaged in rural areas. These schools have a special focus on universalization of secondary education. They have also proved to be a boon for the target group in the erstwhile undivided district within a short time period of their launching.
Model schools were launched in the year 2013 and have won laurels for providing a holistic education through curricular and co-curricular activities with the state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities. They have also been on the right path in fulfilling the mission of preparing rural students for global living through English medium education.
They provide free education, including all facilities on par with the corporate schools and colleges. The demand for admission in these schools has been on the rise year after year.
Now, the old undivided district has as many as 16 model schools and junior colleges and a total of 12,000 (8,000 in schools and 4,000 in colleges) are pursuing education in them.
The schools are also offering vocational courses in 11 trades like, retail marketing, healthcare, beauty and wellness, tourism and hospitality, media and entertainment, apparel, IT, banking and finance, agriculture and physical education. Of them, any two courses are allotted to each school and students need to undergo training in them from Class IX. The vocational course is completed in four stages in four years and after completing the Plus Two, they are given certificates.
Each school has boarding and accommodation facilities for 100 girl students. Similarly, boys are provided with mid-day meals and have no hostel facility. Nutritious and balanced food is served to students and therefore they are healthy and agile.
As these schools have well-qualified teachers. Student’s performance is excellent and most of students secure 9.5 and above grade points in the SSC public examinations.
Chandrasekhar Pendoti, PG teacher in English at Model School, Nandipet said, “The teacher vacancy problem is very minimal in our schools and as soon as vacancy arises in any subject, it is soon filled with qualified teacher on contract basis. Many of our students secured seats in Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (IIITs), Basar, and in other centres for excellence.”
