Zomato and Feeding India have joined hands in an effort towards solving the problems of food wastage, hunger and malnutrition.
India ranks 100 on the Global Hunger Index. Ironically, India wastes food worth 92000 cr per year, quoted by Minister of State for Food Processing back in 2017. As per United Nations Development Programme, food wasted in India account for nearly 40% of the total produced.
Deepinder Goyal, the founder and CEO, Zomato said, “ As we welcome Feeding India into Zomato family, we will take the battle a notch higher by helping them build a system where excess food is directed to those in need. As a start, we aim to activate the restaurants on our platform into the Feeding India network and help them use technology to scale their volunteer operations. Feeding India will become a core part of our DNA and a significant step in our mission to ensure ‘better food for better people.’
Founded in 2014 by two ambitious young people, Ankit Kawatra and Srishti Jain, Feeding India is an NGO addressing the complex problem of food wastage, hunger and malnutrition in India. Till the present date, it has served around 20 million meals through its 12 food recover vans, 50+ community fridges and 8500+ volunteer network.
Apart from donating excess food from various venues like restaurants, airport and events like weddings, corporate meetings etc. that would otherwise go to landfills, Feeding India cooks fresh food through innovative kitchen models to support people with limited access to food and nutrition.

The proper channel directing the excess food to those in need is what the tie up shall work towards. Zomato will power Feeding India’s existing models to solve the biggest challenge of food wastage and hunger in the country.
