Delhi Weather: Delhiites woke up to an early morning light rainfall today (21 June 2020) which comes as a relief from the ongoing heatwave. The pre-monsoon showers which occurred in many parts of Delhi-NCR are likely to continue for the next three to four days. The maximum temperature recorded in Delhi today was 38 degree C compared to 41 degree C on Friday.
Monsoon in India
It can be rightly said that the monsoon is expected to arrive around 24 or 25 June, as per reports by India Meteorological Department (IMD). Rainfall activity over plains of northwest India is expected to increase from 23 June, IMD said. “There will be rain & cloudy skies over many parts of Delhi NCR for next 4 - 5 days,” said Kuldeep Shrivastava, head, regional weather forecasting centre.
Monsoon rains over the country are at 28% excess; 7% excess in northeast; 6% excess in northwest India; 74% excess in central India and 11% excess in peninsular India.
Delhi, Punjab, Haryana Monsoon News
Monsoon will also make an onset in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana on around 24- 25 June. As per the weather experts, the monsoon is set to come in the national capital earlier than its usual date i.e. 27 June. There will be temperatures around 35 degrees for the next 4 - 5 day, reports PTI.
State-wise Monsoon Update
It is to be noted that the conditions are becoming favourable for advance of southwest monsoon into many parts of Madhya Pradesh & Uttar Pradesh and also some parts of Uttarakhand during June 22 and 23 and into entire Western Himalayan region, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, most parts of Punjab, remaining parts of Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and some parts of Rajasthan during June 24 and 25, as per IMD in its Saturday bulletin.
The northern limit of monsoon (northern-most boundary up to which monsoon rains have advanced) continues to pass by Kandla, Ahmedabad in Gujarat; Indore, Raisen, Khajuraho in MP and Fatehpur, Bahraich in UP. There was a pause in monsoon advancement since June 16 but its expected to advance towards west UP now.
Heavy Rainfall in East & Northeast India
A trough at mean sea level is running from central Pakistan to east central Bay of Bengal across south Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, south Uttar Pradesh, north coastal Odisha and northwest Bay of Bengal. There is also a cyclonic circulation over southeast Uttar Pradesh. Due to this influence, widespread rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over east and northeast India in the next 4-5 days.
Yellow Weather Warning Alert
A yellow weather warning has been issued for thunderstorms in Himachal Pradesh from next week. The Shimla Meteorological Centre has forecasted rain & snow showers in the hill state.
In Rajasthan, temperatures dropped by 1 - 3 degree at most places yesterday. Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm & lightning is likely to occur in isolated places in the next 24 hours.
