The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted "heavy to very heavy" rainfall over remote areas of east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Konkan, Goa, coastal Karnataka, and Kerala on Tuesday as the southwest monsoon approaches and will soon cover nearly all of the nation.
According to the IMD's forecast, there will also likely be isolated areas of heavy precipitation over Jammu and Kashmir, Leh-Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad (in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir), Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Gujarat.
"Now that the southwest monsoon has swept across the entirety of India, most states are seeing increased rainfall. Monsoon activity has slowed down in some areas of central and northwest India, but it will resume on Tuesday, according to a senior IMD official.
The Met Department has also forecast thunderstorms with lightning at isolated locations over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, along with gusty gusts of up to 40 kph, as well as thunderstorms with lightning at isolated locations over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
IMD Issues Yellow Alert in Delhi
To warn of moderate to heavy rain or thundershowers, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Tuesday in Delhi and an orange alert for Wednesday.
The weather monitoring organisation has predicted a typically cloudy sky with a chance of mild to moderate rain or thundershowers for Tuesday. According to today's forecast, the city's maximum temperature is expected to be around 36°C and its minimum temperature will be about 26°C. Due to the cloudy skies and heavy rain, and are predicted to drop to 31 and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively, on Wednesday.
Maharashtra Witnesses Heavy Rainfall, NDRF Teams Deployed in Some Areas
Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Beed, Latur, Jalna, Parbhani, and numerous other places in Maharashtra are among those under heavy rain warnings.
Due to the orange alert in the on-going monsoon and the devastation flood last year, a team of five NDRF members has been prepositioned in Chiplun, Ratnagiri as of 04/07/22 and another was prepositioned at Mahad, Raigad as of 03/07/22.
Five NDRF teams have been stationed in Mumbai, one team each in Nagpur, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, and Mahad Raigad. Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, issues an advisory to the government, warning that heavy rains may cause several rivers in coastal regions to surpass the danger line.
