This unauthorized urea was discovered in a structure near Raipur village. According to information available, this is the largest cargo of illegal urea confiscated in several years.

The team, which included six members of the Fertilizer Flying Squad and several members of the Agriculture Department, Yamunanagar, including Rakesh Poria, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection), and Harish Pandey, Subject Matter Specialist (Agro), conducted an inspection of the building last night, which ended April 3 evening.

During the examination, the joint team identified and seized an unlawful consignment of subsidized agricultural-grade urea in the premises.

The urea bags were made by three companies in Uttar Pradesh, implying that the shipment was brought here allegedly to supply plywood factories. A tractor-trailer and two utility vehicles were also retrieved from the same structure and turned over to authorities. The owner of the building where the urea was discovered has yet to be identified.

Dr. Rakesh Poria stated that the package was handed over to the police once the seizure and sealing procedures were completed. The committee has also asked the police to file a FIR in connection with the confiscated urea consignment. Dr. Poria went on to say that any fertilizer dealers or plywood business owners caught unlawfully selling or utilizing agricultural grade urea will face harsh penalties.

The Centre offers reasonably priced subsidized fertilizers. A 45-kg bag of urea costs Rs 266. Technical-grade urea is several times more expensive (Rs 2,500-Rs 3,000 per 50-kg bag) than Agri-grade urea. The subsidized Agri-grade urea may only be used in agriculture. Yet, it is believed that multiple plywood firms in the Yamunanagar district are preparing an adhesive with subsidized urea.
