Ever wondered, what is the population of the whole world right now? Well, according to the latest estimates by the United Nations (UN), elaborated by Worldometer, the present world population stands at 7.9 billion as of July 2021.  

As we publish this article, the population may have increased because almost every minute, there is a baby born somewhere in the world.  

As per UN estimates, world population is anticipated to reach 8 billion by 2023, 9 billion by 2037, and a whopping 10 billion by 2057.  

Theme of World Population Day 2021 

World Population Day 2021 theme is: “Rights and Choices are the answer: Whether baby boom or bust, the solution to shifting fertility rates lies in prioritizing the reproductive health and rights of all people.” 

Significance of World Population Day 

The main aim of observing a special day on world population is to throw light on the issues that may arise on planet Earth with the constant rise in population. It is to spread awareness that, if we burden the Earth with too many people, it can harm the environment.

World Population Day is also observed to spread awareness about family planning, gender equality, human rights, poverty, maternal health, and health issues that childbearing women face around the world.

Present population in India 

The current population of India is 1,393,531,257 as of July 2, 2021. This is on the basis of Worldometer elaboration of UN’s latest data. The population of India is equivalent to 17.7% of the total population in the world.
