World Food Safety Day is celebrated every year on June 7, to draw global attention towards the health consequences of contaminated food and water. World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) will host the Member States efforts to celebrate the World Food Safety Day.
Under the theme “Food safety, everyone’s business”, the action-oriented campaign will promote global food safety awareness and call upon countries and decision makers, the private sector, civil society, UN organizations and the general public to take action.
Everybody has a role to play from farm to table to ensure the food we consume is safe and will not cause damages to our health.
Investing in sustainable food systems pays off:
Safe food allows for suitable uptake of nutrients and promotes long-term human development. Safe food production improves sustainability by enabling market access and productivity, which drives economic development and poverty alleviation, especially in rural areas.
Calls for action:
1. |
Ensure it’s safe |
2. |
Grow it safe |
3. |
Keep it safe |
4. |
Eat it safe |
5. |
Team up for safety |
This international day is an opportunity to strengthen efforts to ensure that the food we eat is safe. Anyone, who is involved in production, processing, sale or preparation of food, has a role to play in keeping it safe. Everybody along the food chain is responsible for food safety.
