On Monday, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal promised to transfer Rs 1,000 per month in the accounts of all women in Punjab, if Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is voted to power in the 2022 Assembly Polls.
Kejriwal announced at a public meeting in Moga town on a two-day visit to the state that “All women above 18 would get this benefit, which would go a long way in the economic uplift of women in society.” And he added that “if a family has three female members, then each will get Rs 1,000 per month.”
In addition to that, the elderly women will get a hike of Rs 1,000 in the monthly old-age pension.
Kejriwal termed Charanjit Channi, his Punjab counterpart, a ‘fake’, and said that this was the world’s biggest women empowerment programme. “Money is not an issue for any government. The AAP, if elected to power in Punjab, would manage funds by snubbing all mafias” said the AAP national convener about generating resources for this poll promise.
“Punjab has a bright future provided that the state government has good intentions and the right approach to development. This time the women will decide the course of the 2022 Assembly election in Punjab” said Kejriwal.
He also said “Beware of a nakli Kejriwal. Don’t go by his words. I keep all my promises made to the people” on Channi, without naming him, who is trying to replicate the policies and programmes of AAP.
Under the AAP’s ‘Mission Punjab’, CM Kejriwal will visit various places in the state in the next month to rally support for the upcoming state elections.
AAP emerged as the second-largest party in 2017, winning 20 seats in 117-member Legislative Assembly. Founded in 2012, the party emerged as the main opposition in Punjab in the last assembly election but party leaders had admitted that they expected the party to perform better. CM Kejriwal has already promised free electricity up to 300 units for each household in Punjab, 24-hour electricity supply, and free treatment and medicines at government hospitals if voted to power in the assembly elections due early next year.
