Weather Warning: Minimum Temperature in Delhi to Drop to 5 Degrees Celsius this week; Heavy Rain Alert over These Places

The national capital is likely to experience a drop in minimum temperature to 5 degrees Celsius by January 14, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday. Moreover, the dense fog conditions are also likely over many places.

The national capital is likely to experience a drop in minimum temperature to 5 degrees Celsius by January 14, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday. Moreover, the dense fog conditions are also likely over many places. While the fear of bird flue is gripping over the states, cold wave condition is likely to severe the situation. 

"On January 14, the temperature in the capital will reduce again, dipping to about 5 degrees Celsius. There might also be dense fog conditions. But we're not expecting any 'cold wave' here as of now," Kuldeep Srivastava, regional head of the IMD in Delhi told ANI.

Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast in lower tropospheric levels, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls and moderate thunderstorm & lightning are very likely over Tamil Nadu
Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe and Lakshadweep during next 3 days and significant decrease in rainfall activity over these regions thereafter.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Kerala & Mahe on 12th January, 2021.

Severe Cold Conditions to Continue over These Places

Due to the prevalence of dry north/northwesterly winds minimum temperature very likely to gradually fall by 2-4°C over most parts of Northwest India during next 2-3 days which are very likely to cause Cold Day/Severe Cold Day conditions at some/many pockets of
Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, northwest Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan during next 2 days.

On the other hand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, northwest Uttar Pradesh and north
Rajasthan are likely to grip under very severe cold wave conditions during next 3 days.

Maximum & Minimum Temperature

Maximum temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at a
few places over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Odisha; at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and Gangetic West Bengal; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at most places over Jharkhand; at a few places over Konkan & Goa while minimum temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at most places over Jharkhand.
