The Indian Meteorological Department has issued heavy rain alert over many places for the next 24 hours in its morning bulletin. According to recent reports, monsoon trough is active and lies over the south of its normal position. Its western end is very likely to shift northwards gradually towards foothills of Himalayas from 8 August, 2020.
IMD issues Orange Alert in Mumbai & Maharashtra
The weather department also issued an orange alert for Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Kolhapur and Satara districts in Maharashtra.CM Uddhav Thackeray visits Peddar Road to assess the damage caused by torrential rain and strong winds in Mumbai. He was accompanied by cabinet minister Aditya Thackeray and BMC officials, says Reports.
Strong southwesterly/westerly monsoonal flow over the Arabian sea with winds speed reaching 50-60 kmph along & off Karnataka & Kerala coasts at lower tropospheric levels very likely to prevail till 9 August, 2020.
Heavy Rain Likely over These States
Under the above favorable scenario;
(i) Widespread rainfall with isolated/ scattered heavy to very heavy falls most likely to continue over Gujarat state, Konkan & Goa and Madhya Maharashtra (ghat areas) during next 24 hours and decrease thereafter; isolated extremely heavy falls likely over Gujarat state.
(ii) Isolated/scattered heavy to very heavy falls also likely over Tamilnadu, Kerala and South Interior & Coastal Karnataka during next 4-5 days. A low pressure area is likely to develop over westcentral & adjoining north Bay of Bengal around 9 August, 2020. Under its influence, rainfall activity is very likely to increase over east & central India from 9 August onwards. Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Vidharbha from 9 to 12 August, 2020
Maximum & Minimum Temperature in India
Maximum temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at a few places over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) while Minimum temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at a few places over West Rajasthan; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at isolated places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi.
