Weather Update: Waterlogging in Delhi & Gurgaon; Heavy rains to Bombard Konkan & Goa from 18th to 21st July; Orange Alert in Maharashtra’s Capital.

The Scene after Gurgaon & Delhi Rains

Roads are fully covered with water, Cars are floating and knocking against each other and the water is entering into people’s homes, these are the scenes witnessed across millennium city Gurgaon today as overnight light rain turned into a downpour through the day.

The waterlogged stretches in the city include Hero Honda Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, Galleria Market Red Light, Wazirabad Chowk, Signature Tower, Kanhai Chowk, Himgiri Chowk, Sheetla Mata Mandir Road and the area near the HUDA City Centre.

At least 3 underpasses at Rajiv Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, and Hero Honda Chowk were closed due to rainwater accumulation. Some residents have posted pictures of the inundated apartment complexes on social media, and they were sarcastically thanking the administration for the “Lake view”.

More intense rains from Maharashtra to Karnataka

The latest forecasts have revealed more intense rains on the horizon. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an off shore trough at the mean sea level runs from the Maharashtra coast to Karnataka coast, it is likely to persist in the next 4 to 5 days.

Under its influence, fairly widespread rains with isolated heavy falls are likely to continue at the west coast as well as parts of west peninsular India in the next 5 to 6 days.

Heavy rains to Bombard Konkan & Goa and other states

In particular, isolated heavy rainfall have been predicted over Konkan & Goa, the Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka and Kerala & Mahe in this forecast period.

Moreover, isolated extremely heavy rainfalls are likely to bombard Konkan & Goa from Sunday to Wednesday, 18th July to 21st July, and the Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on 20th July Tuesday to 21st July Wednesday.

IMD issues Orange Alert in Maharashtra’s Capital

The India Meteorological Department’s regional Centre of Maharashtra has forecasted that the Maharashtrian capital will be witnessing isolated heavy showers over the weekend, but the precipitation will intensify into heavy rainfall starting from 19th July Monday onwards.

In view of these predictions, the IMD  issued orange alert over aforementioned subdivisions on the respective dates and any changes & intensifications in the forecast may lead to red warning.
