Amidst weather fluctuations, certain regions in eastern and southern parts of India are on alert for heatwaves, warm nights, and hot and humid weather conditions, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Heat wave conditions are likely in isolated to some pockets of Odisha, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and interior Tamil Nadu, with severe heatwave conditions possible in some areas.
In terms of temperatures, many regions in east India may experience maximum temperatures above normal by about 2 degrees Celsius over the next three days, with no significant changes elsewhere.
Rainfall Influenced by Western Disturbances
Moreover, as per the IMD update, the impending influence of a western disturbance combined with a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and its surrounding areas due to which scattered to widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and even hailstorms are expected across the country.
In Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh, the weather agency predicts scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall and snowfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, especially today as per the weather agency. Similarly, Uttarakhand is likely to experience isolated to scattered rainfall throughout the forecast period.
Moving towards the plains, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and parts of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are expected to witness isolated to scattered rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds till Monday.
Thunderstorms over Northeast India
The influence of this weather system extends to northeast India as well, with Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura expected to experience widespread light to moderate rainfall and snowfall, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds till Wednesday. Additionally, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to see scattered light to moderate rainfall and snowfall today.
Further south, a trough extending from Marathwada to south Tamil Nadu is expected to bring isolated light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over various parts of Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and south India till Monday.
