A second heat wave spell is expected in April, with heat waves and hot and humid weather conditions over the next five days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Heatwave conditions are anticipated in isolated pockets of Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal till Saturday, while in north Konkan, Saurashtra, Kutch, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam, they are expected today.
The IMD predicted that Telangana is likely to experience heatwave conditions till Thursday. Additionally, hot and humid weather is likely to prevail over Gangetic West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Rayalaseema till Saturday. Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe are expected to experience such conditions today, while coastal areas of Gujarat are likely to be affected till Thursday. Furthermore, Konkan and Goa can expect hot and humid weather on Saturday. Moreover, warm nights are expected over Madhya Maharashtra and Odisha till Thursday and Saturday respectively.
Temperature Forecast
The weather department predicted a gradual increase in maximum temperatures by 2-4 degrees Celsius over central, east, and south peninsular India during the next three days, with no significant fluctuations anticipated thereafter. Similarly, Maharashtra is likely to witness a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next two days, followed by a subsequent decrease of 2-3 degrees Celsius.
Impact of Western Disturbance on Northwest India
A western disturbance, identified as a cyclonic circulation is expected to impact northwest India starting from Thursday. Under its influence, widespread light to moderate rainfall and snowfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) is expected in the same regions till Sunday, according to the weather agency.
Additionally, isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) is highly likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi till Saturday, and over west Uttar Pradesh, and east Rajasthan on Friday and Sunday. Isolated hailstorms are also predicted over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab during the same period, the IMD mentioned.
Impact of Cyclonic Circulation over Parts of Bihar, Assam
Additionally, a cyclonic circulation is observed over east Bihar and another over northeast Assam in lower tropospheric levels. According to the IMD, under their influence, widespread light to moderate rainfall and snowfall with isolated thunderstorms are expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till Sunday.
Furthermore, scattered to fairly widespread moderate rainfall and snowfall are forecasted over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Thursday. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh till Saturday and over Assam and Meghalaya till Saturday. Moreover, the weather department said a cyclonic circulation prevails over Rayalaseema with a trough extending from Marathwada to north interior Karnataka in lower tropospheric levels. Consequently, isolated light rainfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning are likely over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada till Thursday.
Lastly, the IMD mentioned that a cyclonic circulation is observed over south Tamil Nadu in lower tropospheric levels. Under its influence, scattered to fairly widespread moderate rainfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorms is likely over Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, and isolated rainfall with thunderstorms over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh till Sunday.
