Weather Update: Rainfall in Delhi to Continue; Red Alert in MP, Rajasthan

According to IMD forecast, areas of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh should embrace for a very wet week, till August 5. The states would see the heaviest downpour today. Keeping this in view, the weather department has issued red alert in these areas.  

Due to the occurrence and movement of low-pressure system in Bay of Bengal last week, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan is under the spell of widespread and heavy precipitation. The pressure is expected to move westwards in the next 48 hours. IMD has issued red warning for these areas for today and tomorrow. The advisory is urging residents to “take action” to protect themselves against the rough weather.

Weather in New Delhi

According to IMD’s regional met center, which is based in New Delhi, the current spell of widespread to fairly widespread rains will continue over the northwest plains today and tomorrow. After that, the rainfall activity will lessen and the rainfall distribution will become light to moderate and scattered in nature.

Heavy rains will happen in isolated areas of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi subdivisions till August 4.

July was a wet month for Delhi, as the capital city received a record rainfall with about 16 wet days and 3 days of heavy rains. Overall, the base station of Delhi located at Safdarjung recorded 507 mm rainfall in July. This was quite higher than the usual 210 mm. It is 141% higher than the long-period average.

IMD has predicted widespread to fairly widespread rainfall activity with isolated episodes of heavy to very heavy rains on the horizon from August 2 to 5. The western half of the state can receive isolated extremely heavy rains today and tomorrow. Intensity of rains is likely to reduce from Thursday.

Regional met center of IMD in Bhopal has predicted extremely heavy rains over Vidisha and heavy to very heavy rains over Bhopal, Dewas, Raisen, Rajgarh, Agar Malwa, Schore, Ujjain, Shajapur, Guna, Ashoknagar, Guna, Chhatarpur, Shivpuri, Sheopur, Panna, Tikamgarh, Sagar, and Damoh districts of Madhya Pradesh.
