Weather Update: March Officially Brings Summer, Capital to be Mostly Cloudy with Smoke and Haze

Today, Delhi is wrapped in a cloak of clouds with widespread areas of smoke and haze looming overhead. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 23°C, while the minimum will settle around 12°C. However, visibility might be compromised at times due to the prevailing conditions.

Western Disturbance Impacting Western Himalayan Region

A fresh Western Disturbance is anticipated to make its presence felt in the Western Himalayan Region starting from the night of March 5, 2024. This disturbance is likely to bring scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh. Uttarakhand might also experience isolated rainfall/snowfall during March 5 to 7, 2024.

Trough and Cyclonic Circulation

A trough extending from East Madhya Pradesh to north Tamil Nadu will lead to isolated light to moderate rainfall over various regions including East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Sikkim on March 4, 2024. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam will result in scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall over Arunachal Pradesh during the next three days. Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh today. Moreover, isolated rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is anticipated over Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland on March 4 and 5, 2024.

Regional Weather Highlights

Dehradun: Despite regional forecasts for rain, Dehradun is not expected to experience any precipitation this week. Daytime temperatures will continue to climb, reaching around 25-26°C by Friday.

Shimla: Light rains are forecasted for Shimla on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. These showers will help keep maximum temperatures between 14-16°C throughout the week.

Srinagar: Initially dry conditions are expected in Srinagar, followed by rain or thundershowers from Wednesday to Friday. Daytime temperatures will hover around 11-12°C till the end of the week.
