Weather Update: IMD Predicts Extremely Heavy Rainfall in Many States This Week

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the east of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are expected to experience heavy rainfall from tomorrow, August 17.

The weather office has previously said that the deep depression's cyclonic circulation also lies across Western parts of Gangetic West Bengal.

The weather advisory stated, "Heavy rainfall spell likely at scattered places over east Uttar Pradesh districts and Bihar from August 17."

The IMD also stated that during the first half of this week (August 18–24), the monsoon trough is quite likely to be to the north of its normal position and shift gradually southwards thereafter.

It further said that “Fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls is expected over northwest, central and east India during this week. Rainfall activity will be normal to above normal over northwest, central & east India. It is expected to be near normal over the remaining parts of the country outside Arunachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Karnataka, where it is likely to be below normal”.

Meanwhile, the Bhopal District Collector ordered that all schools in the district stay closed today, August 16, due to the region's persistent rainfall. For the past three days, Madhya Pradesh has been battered by heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

For the upcoming 24 hours, the Madhya Pradesh divisions of Jabalpur, Bhopal, and Narmadapuram are under a rainfall alert from the IMD. The officials have been directed to stay vigil because of the heavy rainfall situation in the state. 

Earlier, the weather forecasting agency also predicted very heavy rainfall over ghat areas of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh on 16th August.

Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana have been witnessing rainfall for the past few days.
