Over the next few days, there is predicted to be significant rainfall in a number of locations across central and western India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that there will likely be active monsoon conditions over Gujarat, Rajasthan, and West Madhya Pradesh in addition to a depression over East Rajasthan and neighbouring West Madhya Pradesh.
Meanwhile, around August 19, a new Low-Pressure Area is forecast to develop over the North Bay of Bengal. Beginning on Friday, it will result in increased rainfall activity throughout east and central India. It is noteworthy that the western end of the monsoon trough is now south of where it usually is and is predicted to stay there for the next three days.
According to the IMD's weather bulletin, "Fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over south Rajasthan on August 16 and 17; Gujarat Region and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on August 16 and 17; Saurashtra & Kutch during August 16 to 18; and over Konkan & Goa on August 16 and 20 are other areas that will experience these weather conditions. On August 17, there may be a few isolated areas of very heavy rainfall across Kutch, Saurashtra, and southwest Rajasthan."
The eastern and central states of India are also expected to receive heavy rain in the coming days. "Under the influence of a Low-Pressure Area likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal around the 19th of August, fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall is likely over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and East Madhya Pradesh during the 18th-20th of August, 2022," the MeT Department said.
On August 19 and 20, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Odisha. On Friday and Saturday, isolated heavy rain is expected over Chhattisgarh and Gangetic West Bengal. On August 20, similar weather conditions will prevail in Bihar and east Madhya Pradesh. Heavy rain is expected in the Western Himalayan region of India, including Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, as well as the northern plains, over the next few days.
"Fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Himachal Pradesh on the 16th, 19th, and 20th, and Uttarakhand on the 18th-20th," the weather service said. Rainfall is also expected in eastern Uttar Pradesh on August 19 and 20, as well as in western Uttar Pradesh on August 20.
