The India Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall with exceptionally heavy rains across areas of South India on November 18, followed by light to moderate rainfall the rest of the week.
According to the IMD weather prediction, a low pressure region will form over the southeast Bay of Bengal and move almost westward, reaching the west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal off the coastlines of South Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu on November 18, 2021.
Another low pressure region remains over the east-central Arabian Sea, off the coast of Karnataka. It is expected to drift west-northwestward and become more noticeable during the following 48 hours, according to IMD.
At lower tropospheric levels, a trough extends from the cyclonic circulation associated with low pressure region across east-central Arabian Sea from Karnataka coast to north Konkan via south Maharashtra-Goa coasts, according to the weather service.
Meanwhile, another trough runs from the cyclonic circulation linked with the low pressure region over the east-central Arabian Sea off the coast of Karnataka to the low pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal at lower and middle tropospheric levels, according to the report.
As a result of these weather systems, light to moderate rainfall is expected across coastal and south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 5 days, and over Rayalaseema over the next 3 days.
On November 17, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
On November 18, the weatherman predicts isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with exceptionally heavy precipitation across north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, as well as south coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Over the course of this week, strong winds of 40-50 kmph with gusts up to 60 kmph are expected over the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. Fishermen have been cautioned not to venture into windy areas.
