Weather Update: Heavy Rains in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Flood-Like Situation in UP in 24 hours; IMD Issues Yellow & Orange Alerts

Heavy Rain Alert in North

Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall likely to continue in Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand with isolated heavy rain fall till 16th July, increasing to isolated heavy rainfall over these regions on 17th and 18th July.

Isolated to scattered rainfalls over Northwest India till 16th July along with Isolated heavy rainfall over Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh & Rajasthan on 14th July. There is likely to enhance rainfall over these areas from 17th July along widespread rainfall & isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Punjab, Haryana, North Madhya Pradesh, North Rajasthan and South Uttar Pradesh during 17th to 19th July.

Increase in rainfall over northeast India on 17th to 19th July. Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall till 16th July & isolated heavy rainfall over the region on 17th to 19th July.

Widespread rainfall along with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur over Konkan & Goa and Karnataka in the next 3 days. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Konkan & Goa in 3 days. Decrease rainfall in the west coast & peninsular India from 16th July onwards till 18th July.

Moderate to severe thunderstorm along with lightning likely to occur over Delhi, Chandigarh & Haryana, Northwest Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan & Kutch region during the next 24 hours. This may cause the injuries leading to causalities to people & animals staying outdoors.

Heavy Rainfall likely in Himachal Pradesh, UP & other States from 14th to 18th July

According to the India Meteorological Department, the easterly winds from Bay to Bengal, entered into the region last weekend and will continue to bring scattered to widespread rainfall over the parts of northwest India in the next 2 to 3 days. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfalls are expected to batter Uttarakhand & west Uttar Pradesh in the next 5 days.

The similar conditions of heavy rainfalls are likely to prevail over Himachal Pradesh on 14th July Wednesday & again over the weekend. Similarly, the eastern parts of Rajasthan & Uttar Pradesh are also likely to register isolated heavy rainfalls from 14th July Wednesday to 18th July Sunday.

UP at Risk: Flood like Situation likely to Occur

Rainfall is expected to intensify this weekend to early next week with a total accumulation of 200-250 mm across northern Gangetic Plain. With the incessant rains, there is an overall risk of the flood-like situation. Uttar Pradesh expected to experience moderate to severe thunderstorms along with lightning in the next 24 hours. Earlier this week, around 50 people have died in the state because of lightning.

IMD issued Yellow & Orange Alert in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh & other States

The India Meteorological Department has placed Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan under a yellow watch from 14th July to 16th July.  By 17th July, the inclement weather is expected to aggravate over the parts of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. Therefore, these places are kept under an orange alert.

Other North & Northwest India places, including Delhi, Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, will continue to remain under the yellow watch.
