As temperatures fluctuate and precipitation patterns evolve, India finds itself amidst a diverse tapestry of weather phenomena. While Delhi anticipates a slight rise in temperatures alongside potential rainfall, the northernmost regions rejoice in the beauty of snowfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported a slight increase in Delhi's maximum temperature as the cold northwesterly winds that typically keep the city cool have ceased. With the maximum temperature hovering around 31°C, it is anticipated to maintain this range on Tuesday and Wednesday. Interestingly, Delhi has yet to experience a day where the temperature reaches 30°C this year.

IMD's Forecast: Western Disturbance to Bring Precipitation

The IMD has outlined the influence of a Western Disturbance expected to affect Northwest India from the night of March 12, 2024. As per their predictions, various regions are set to experience different intensities of precipitation. Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall or snowfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning are expected over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on March 13 and 14, with a reduction in intensity thereafter. Isolated to scattered light rainfall is likely over Punjab, north Haryana, Chandigarh, Northwest Uttar Pradesh, and West Rajasthan on March 13.

Apart from the Western Himalayan Region, IMD's predictions extend to other parts of the country. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and West Madhya Pradesh are all expected to experience isolated to scattered rainfall between March 11 and 17. Arunachal Pradesh is likely to witness isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall/snowfall for the next seven days. Kerala, Mahe, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal should brace for hot and humid weather over the next few days.

Southern India Heats Up as North Embraces Snow

While Delhi braces for rising temperatures and potential rainfall, southern India experiences unseasonably warm weather. In stark contrast, the northernmost regions of the country are reveling in snowfall. This pattern is expected to persist for several days.

The ongoing wet spell has already led to disruptions, with traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway suspended for maintenance and due to landslides. Additionally, various other roads in the region remain snowbound and closed for traffic. The IMD has issued yellow watches over several areas, urging caution.

As Delhi prepares for a slight rise in temperatures and potential rainfall, the rest of the country braces for varying weather conditions, from scorching heat to refreshing snowfall. Stay tuned for further updates as IMD continues to monitor and predict these dynamic weather patterns.
