According to the latest bulletin from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a combination of weather systems, including a weakening depression, upper air cyclonic circulations, and western disturbances, is expected to affect weather conditions across the country. These systems are bringing a diverse weather patterns, ranging from heavy rainfall in the Northeast to dust storms in Rajasthan and thunderstorms in Delhi/NCR. Here are the details:
Deep Depression Over Bay of Bengal Weakens, Shifts Northwards
A deep depression that formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal has now weakened into a depression and moved north-northeastward into Bangladesh. It is expected to turn into a well-marked low-pressure area within 12 hours, reducing its overall intensity.
This weakening will ease direct pressures from the system, but its remnants will continue to fuel rainfall in Eastern and Northeastern India.
Northeast India: Heavy to Extremely Heavy Rainfall Alert
The Northeast is expected to receive widespread rainfall over the next 7 days, with isolated very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over several states like Meghalaya, Assam, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh. On 31th May, exceptionally heavy rainfall (>30 cm) is forecast over Meghalaya.

While the ongoing rainfall will bring relief from the heat in many parts of the country, extreme weather events like thundersqualls, heavy downpours, and dust storms may pose risks in some areas. Residents are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid unnecessary travel in rain-affected zones, and keep a close watch on IMD alerts. As India gradually moves into the monsoon onset phase, dynamic and shifting weather conditions are expected to continue. Stay safe and stay prepared.
