IMD Forecasts Heavy to Very Heavy Rain in Gujarat, Kerala, Maharashtra & Northeast States; Delhi NCR Braces for Showers

Widespread rainfall is expected across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, and Delhi/NCR due to monsoon troughs, upper air cyclonic circulations, and Western Disturbances. Several states may also experience isolated heavy showers with thunderstorms and lightning.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an active monsoon phase across the country in the coming days, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in multiple regions. Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Gujarat, Kerala, and Coastal Karnataka are expected to receive intense showers. Northwest India, including Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, is also likely to witness heavy to very heavy rain through early September, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Here is the region-wise forecast.

West India: Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall in Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, and Maharashtra

Western India is expected to witness intense rainfall due to an active monsoon trough and associated weather systems. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is likely in the Gujarat region today, while Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, and Saurashtra & Kutch will see heavy rains in the coming days.

Northwest India: Isolated Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall

Northwest India, including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and western Uttar Pradesh, will experience isolated heavy rainfall over the next week. Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and West Uttar Pradesh are likely to see very heavy rainfall at isolated locations.

The south peninsular region, including Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, will receive widespread rainfall. Coastal Karnataka and Kerala are expected to see very heavy rainfall, especially on 30th August.

East and Central India: Rain and Thunderstorms Across Multiple States

East and central India will also experience scattered rainfall. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha are expected to witness isolated heavy rainfall, with very heavy rainfall in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim.

Delhi/NCR: Cloudy Skies with Light to Moderate Rain

Delhi NCR will see mostly cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in upcoming days. Maximum temperatures will remain slightly below normal, ranging from 29°C to 32°C, while minimum temperatures will be between 22°C and 24°C. Southeast winds are expected with moderate speed during afternoons.
