The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert regarding a deep depression in the Northwest Bay of Bengal, which is expected to cross the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast on May 29, 2025. Widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and extremely heavy downpours are anticipated across various regions of the country as multiple weather systems interact. Here are the details:

Deep Depression Over Bay of Bengal to Impact Eastern India

The IMD confirmed that the well-marked low-pressure system intensified into a deep depression early on May 29 and is centered near 21.3°N and 88.5°E. It lies 60 km southeast of Sagar Island and 180 km west of Khepupara, Bangladesh. This system is likely to bring intense rainfall to Eastern and Northeastern India.
