Weather Update: IMD Alerts Thunderstorms, Dust Storms and Heatwaves in Delhi, Odisha, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Assam and Other States

IMD has predicted thunderstorms, rain, and duststorms across several regions of India, while heatwave conditions continue in parts of the west. Weather systems are driving shifting patterns, from heavy showers in the East and Northeast to hot and humid conditions in the South.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms, strong winds, and heatwave conditions across different regions of the country in the coming days. A combination of weather systems—troughs, cyclonic circulations, and western disturbances, is expected to drive varied weather patterns from East to Northwest India, including Delhi-NCR. Here are the Details

Eastern and Central India: Rain, Thunderstorm and Hail Alert

Due to multiple troughs and a cyclonic circulation over north Bangladesh, Eastern and Central India are likely to witness widespread rainfall and thunderstorms. Strong winds and isolated hailstorm activities are also forecasted.

IMD has also warned of isolated hailstorm activity on April 30 across Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal.

Northwest India: Western Disturbance to Bring Rain and Duststorms

A fresh Western Disturbance will affect northwest India from May 2 onwards, bringing rainfall, thunderstorms, and dust storms. These changes will impact Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and the hilly regions of Himachal and Uttarakhand.

Southern India: Wet Weather with Occasional Thunder Squalls

Southern India will remain under the influence of a cyclonic circulation extending from Madhya Pradesh to Tamil Nadu. Several states will experience scattered rainfall, with intense thundersquall activity expected in North Interior Karnataka.

Although rainfall will offer some relief from heat in parts of the South, hot and humid weather is still expected across coastal and interior regions until May 1.

Northeast India: Heavy Rainfall Ahead

Northeast India is likely to witness heavy rainfall, strong winds, and isolated heavy showers, particularly in Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. Thunderstorms and lightning will accompany most of the precipitation.

Temperature Trends and Heatwave Warnings

While rain will cool many regions, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are still expected in western parts of India, particularly in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh.

Maximum temperatures over Northwest India and Gujarat are expected to drop by 2–4°C after two days due to cloud cover and rainfall. Elsewhere, no significant changes are expected.

Delhi-NCR Weather Forecast

Delhi is set for varied weather, with dust storms and rain likely between April 30 and May 2. Temperatures will remain slightly below normal with strong surface winds expected.
