Weather Update: Heavy Rainfall Alert in Jammu, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha & Telangana; Light Showers in Delhi-NCR

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall across multiple regions of the country as monsoon activity intensifies. An active monsoon trough and a strengthening low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal are likely to bring heavy to extremely heavy showers to parts of Northwest, East and South India, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Northwest India: Jammu, Punjab & Himachal Pradesh on Alert

An active western disturbance combined with a cyclonic circulation over south Haryana and northeast Rajasthan is likely to bring heavy to extremely heavy rainfall to parts of Jammu, northwest Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and East Rajasthan over the coming days.

The formation of a low-pressure system over the northwest Bay of Bengal will drive intense rainfall across Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, and Madhya Pradesh, along with thunderstorm activity in surrounding states.

Northeast India: Persistent Rainfall for the Entire Week

IMD has predicted widespread rainfall across Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. While the intensity will mostly be moderate, heavy rainfall may occur at isolated locations.

Winds will predominantly blow from the southeast with speeds of 12–20 kmph, gradually reducing during night hours.

With an active monsoon trough, low-pressure systems, and cyclonic circulations in place, most parts of India will experience widespread rainfall over the next seven days. Authorities have advised caution in areas forecasted to receive very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, particularly in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
