Weather Update: Heavy Snow in Kashmir & Ladakh, Thunderstorms in Maharashtra & Karnataka, Heatwave in Odisha & Gujarat

Heavy snowfall is set to hit Kashmir and Ladakh, while thunderstorms with gusty winds will sweep Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are expected in Odisha, with hot and humid weather in parts of Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for heavy snowfall in Kashmir and Ladakh, thunderstorms in Maharashtra and Karnataka, and heatwave conditions in Odisha. Strong winds and rain are expected in parts of North India, while temperatures may rise or fall in different regions. Here’s a look at the latest weather forecast.

North India Faces Snowfall and Strong Winds

IMD has issued alerts for isolated heavy snowfall in Kashmir and Ladakh on March 27. Jammu is expected to receive heavy rainfall, while light to moderate snowfall is predicted for Ladakh.

Additionally, isolated hailstorms may occur in Himachal Pradesh, and dust-raising winds (20-30 kmph) are likely over West Rajasthan on March 27. Strong surface winds (25-35 kmph) may affect Punjab (March 27-28) and Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi (March 27-29).

Thunderstorms in South and West India

A trough running from Chhattisgarh to the Gulf of Mannar is expected to trigger isolated to scattered thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-50 kmph) over the following regions:

  • Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan & Goa

  • Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal (March 27)

Temperature Trends Across India

The temperature forecast suggests a mix of rising and falling temperatures across various regions:

  • Northwest India: No significant change in maximum temperatures for the next 24 hours, followed by a drop of 3-4°C.

  • East India: A gradual rise of 2-3°C in the next 3-4 days, followed by a drop of 2-3°C.

  • Gujarat & Interior Maharashtra: No significant change in temperatures for the next 3 days, then a rise of 2-3°C.

  • Central India: Gradual rise by 2-3°C in the next 3 days, with no major change afterward.
