Weather Update: IMD Predicts Snowfall in Himachal, Uttarakhand; Rain in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana; Heatwave in Konkan, Goa

Heavy rain, snowfall, thunderstorms, and temperature fluctuations are set to impact various regions across India, from the Himalayas to coastal areas. Heatwave conditions are expected in parts of western India, while a new weather system may bring more rainfall in early March.

As February transitions into March, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted significant rainfall, snowfall, thunderstorms, and temperature variations across the country. The Western Himalayan region, northwest India, and coastal areas are expected to experience diverse weather patterns in the coming days. Here are the details.

Western Disturbance to Bring Snow and Rain to Northern India

A Western Disturbance, currently positioned as a trough in the tropospheric levels, is expected to bring heavy rainfall and snowfall to the Western Himalayan region. High moisture feeding from the Arabian Sea will likely intensify this system until February 28.

Fresh Western Disturbance to Hit Northwest India in March

A new Western Disturbance is likely to impact Northwest India from March 2 onwards, bringing light to moderate rain and snowfall over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh between March 2-4.

 

Temperature Trends Across India

IMD’s forecast indicates fluctuating temperatures across various regions.

1. Minimum Temperature Trends:

  • A gradual rise by 2°C in Northwest India over the next two days, followed by a dip of 2-4°C.

  • No significant change expected in the rest of India over the next 4-5 days.

2. Maximum Temperature Trends:

  • No major change in Northwest India for the next 24 hours, with a gradual drop of 3-5°C thereafter.

  • Konkan & Goa will see a slight drop of 2°C.

  • Central India & Interior Maharashtra may experience a 2-3°C rise over four days.

  • Gujarat will see a 2-3°C increase after two days.

  • Eastern India’s temperatures will rise by 2-3°C after two days.
