Weather Update: The southwest monsoon is retreating from northwestern India, but new weather systems over the Bay of Bengal are set to bring heavy rain to several regions. IMD has warned of very heavy showers in Telangana, Vidarbha, Odisha, Maharashtra, Konkan, and Goa, with extremely heavy rain likely along the Konkan coast and the ghats of Madhya Maharashtra. Here are the details
A cyclonic circulation persists over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal near Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coasts. Under its influence, a new low-pressure area is likely to form within 12 hours and may intensify into a depression by 26th September. This system is expected to move westwards and cross the South Odisha–North Andhra Pradesh coasts around the morning of 27th September.
Such developments could trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall along the coastal belt, impacting agriculture, transportation, and fishing activities.
East & Central India: Heavy Rainfall Alert
Central India and the eastern belt will remain active with widespread rain and thunderstorms over the coming days. Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha are the primary regions under alert, with isolated very heavy rainfall expected on 26th–27th September.
