Weather Update: IMD Predicts Snowfall in Jammu & Kashmir, Thunderstorms in Punjab & Haryana, Rain in Delhi-NCR & Rajasthan, and Heatwave in Goa & Kerala

A Western Disturbance will bring snowfall and rain to North India, while South India braces for heavy rainfall due to an easterly wave. Heatwave conditions are expected in parts of western and coastal regions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted significant weather changes across the country in the coming days. A Western Disturbance, along with an induced low-pressure system and an upper-air cyclonic circulation, is expected to bring snowfall, thunderstorms, rainfall, and temperature fluctuations across multiple regions. Here are the details: 

Western Disturbance to Impact North India

A Western Disturbance is currently active over North Pakistan and adjoining parts of India, expected to bring intense weather activity to the Western Himalayan region. The disturbance, positioned at 3.1 km above sea level, will result in the following weather patterns:

Additionally, isolated hailstorms are expected in Punjab and Haryana on February 27, while very heavy snowfall is predicted in Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh between February 26 and 27.

Cyclonic Circulation Over Northeast India

An upper-air cyclonic circulation over Northeast Assam will influence weather in the eastern states. As a result:

  • East Arunachal Pradesh will experience isolated snowfall and thunderstorms on February 26.

  • Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Northeast Assam, and Nagaland are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms on February 26.

Active Easterly Wave Over South India

The presence of an easterly wave will bring widespread rainfall over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and adjoining regions.

Fresh Western Disturbance in March

A new Western Disturbance is expected to impact Northwest India from March 2 onwards. As a result:

  • Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad & Himachal Pradesh will experience fresh snowfall on March 2-3.

  • Uttarakhand is likely to receive light snowfall on the same dates.

Temperature Outlook: Gradual Rise, Followed by Drop

IMD has forecasted a temperature rise across several regions, followed by a decline in the later days.
