Weather Update: Low Pressure Over Bay of Bengal to Bring Heavy Rainfall to Odisha, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Northeast India- Check Full Forecast

A fresh low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is set to intensify rainfall across India, with IMD forecasting heavy to extremely heavy showers in several regions till July 30. Coastal, central, and eastern parts of the country are on alert for possible flooding and thunderstorms.

Weather Update: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast extremely heavy rainfall over parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, and Gangetic West Bengal under the influence of a low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal. According to the IMD, monsoon conditions are likely to remain in an active phase over central and eastern India, as well as the west coast and adjoining ghat regions, over the next 4 to 5 days. This could result in widespread rainfall activity, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across many states. Here are the details

East & Central India: Low-Pressure System to Trigger Extremely Heavy Rains

The newly formed low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal, the remnant of Cyclone WIPHA, is expected to travel west-northwestward, impacting Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and adjoining areas. This system is likely to cause extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations, especially between July 25 and 28.

Thunderstorms with gusty winds up to 40 kmph are likely across most of the region, especially in Bihar on July 24 and 25.

South Peninsular India: Karnataka, Andhra Coast, and Telangana Under Heavy Rainfall Threat

Due to strong monsoon flows and offshore troughs, the South Peninsular states will continue to receive intense rainfall. Coastal Karnataka is on red alert for extremely heavy rain, while parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana may also experience very heavy rainfall between July 25.

West India: Konkan, Ghat Areas of Maharashtra, and Gujarat in Focus

A persistent offshore trough along the Maharashtra-Kerala coast is enhancing rainfall over the Konkan coast and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, with extremely heavy rainfall forecasted on July 25. Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch regions will also see widespread showers, with some areas likely to receive very heavy rainfall.

Northeast India: Consistent Rainfall with Very Heavy Spells Expected

The northeastern states will continue to witness widespread rainfall, with Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram–Tripura likely to experience very heavy showers on July 26. Most other states will see light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms.

With the Bay of Bengal low-pressure system gaining strength, and multiple troughs and disturbances active across the country, India is in for another intense monsoon week. The IMD has issued specific warnings for Odisha, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and northeastern states, where flash floods, waterlogging, and landslides are possible. Residents and local authorities are advised to stay alert and follow regional advisories.
